5 Healthy Ways to Stay Active with Your Family This Fall

Summer is over, and with it ends many of the outdoor activities you enjoy in the sun. Autumn brings cool weather, and cozy jackets, but it doesn’t mean you can’t still get active as a family. At QuickRXRefills, we believe in the importance of leading an active lifestyle to improve heart health, immunity, and overall wellness.

1. Apple Picking at a Local Farm

Apple picking is a not only a great way to have fun as a family, but it involves plenty of outdoor activity. Reaching, climbing, and plucking apples to fill your baskets or barrels is hard but rewarding work, and at the end you can bring home celebratory apples to share with the family. Bake pies, make apple sauce, or eat them raw! Apples are loaded with vitamins and nutrients, such as vitamin C, vitamin B6, as well as calcium and potassium. They are also rich in antioxidants, dietary fiber, and phytonutrients.

2. Collecting Fall Craft Samples

Fall crafts are a great way to bring the family together, and there’s no better way to explore your creative side than by taking a trip through nature to collect plenty of natural samples for your craftwork. Build a festive fall wreath by gathering fallen pinecones, acorns, perfect orange leaves, and crisp brown twigs. A little hot glue and some glitter can turn these everyday items into an exquisite fall wreath for your front door. Take a long walk through the woods and bring a bag to fill. Of course, you should never pluck living vegetation from trees, but collecting fallen tidbits is usually okay, as long as you’re not in a national park.

3. Get Cooking as a Family

Cooking may not be an activity that gets your heart pumping and boosts your cardio levels, but it can definitely help your family’s overall health. Fall brings about plenty of delicious harvest vegetables that you can’t get fresh the rest of the year. Show your kids how much fun squash, Brussel Sprouts, pumpkin, and pears can be by creating festive fall meals together. Even the pickiest eaters are more likely to try new things if they’ve had a hand in the finished product. So, grab some aprons, whip out an assortment of seasonings, and dive into your favorite fall cookbooks for a taste of fall your family won’t soon forget. Try to use fresh produce, and incorporate as many vitamin rich, dietary fiber filled ingredients as you can.

4. Visit a Pumpkin Patch and Get Carving

Nothing says fall like a freshly carved jack-o-lantern, but before you start carving you’ve got to pick the perfect pumpkin. Just like apple picking, pumpkin picking is a great fall family activity that will get everybody outdoors and active. Hike through an enormous pumpkin patch to find the right jack-o-lantern for your tribe.

Check out local pumpkin farmers and their fall activities in your area. Some pumpkin farms host special events on weekends to bring in larger numbers of consumers. Check for hay rides, haunted houses, and more while pumpkin picking.

5. Take Your Crew to a Haunted Corn Maze

Whether the nearest farm is a few minutes down the road, or a couple of hours away, packing up the family car for a trip to the corn maze will be fun for everybody. Many corn maze proprietors have areas for young children and adults to enjoy so children young and old can take part without getting too scared. Corn mazes involve plenty of exercise, fun and togetherness. If you’re looking for a truly festive fall favorite, search for local corn mazes in your area. As an alternative, if there is no corn mazes near you, check out local ghost walks for a similar experience.
