10 Best Ways to Soothe a Sore Throat

Most common cases of sore throat are simply viruses which have invaded the body, and so individuals don’t need to seek out medical attention to have these conditions treated. Strep throat, on the other hand, tends to be more severe, as well as contagious, and this is because it is caused by something called streptococcal bacteria, which causes an infection; in these instances, it is best to seek out medical attention. The associated symptoms of a more serious strep throat include pain, fever, redness and swelling of the throat and tonsil, and a prescription from a doctor will usually need to be obtained to deal with them and the underlying condition in order to prevent the situation from becoming even more serious.

When a person is struggling with a simple sore throat and looking for easy and inexpensive ways to deal with it while they are trying to recover from an illness such as a flu or cold, there are a wide range of options that they can choose from that will have them feeling better in just about no time at all.

1. Aloe vera has been used throughout the centuries for a range of illnesses, including the treatment of a sore throat. For relief, simply gargle with aloe vera juice up to two times every day.

2. Mix ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar with ¼ cup of honey and consume one tablespoon of the mixture every four hours, as needed to relieve the pain.

3. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried chamomile blossoms to boiling water to make a tea, and drink one cup every few hours. Those that are looking for a more convenient way of making the tea can simply purchase chamomile tea bags and brew the beverage from there; this has long been known as a great option for the alleviation of sore throats.

4. Peel the skin off of a small ginger root, slice the root into thin strips and place them in hot water to make a tea. When the tea is ready, it should turn a tan or yellowish color. To sweeten the concoction, simply add some honey. It is quite common for people to feel a tingling in the back of their throat as they swallow it.

5. Lemon is not only refreshing, but it is also anti-bacterial and it contains a high dose of vitamin C. For pain relief, simply add the juice of one lemon with a teaspoon of salt to a cup; gargle the mixture three times a day for one minute.

6. Suck on licorice candy, or alternatively, steep a licorice root in a cup of hot water for three minutes and drink the concoction; this tea should also assist in clearing any mucus within the nasal passages.

7. Boil a few pomegranate rinds in hot water and drink it as a tea; this fruit is not only delicious, but it also contains astringents, which can be consumed to soothe a sore throat.

8. Mix a teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of hot water and gargle the mixture a few times a day. Not only does this alleviate the pain, but it also increases the blood supply to the area by washing away the mucus and dilating the capillaries; this has been known to improve in the circulation of infection-fighting antibodies.

9. Suck on a peppermint or just about any other type of hard candy; it will help to sooth a sore throat.

10.  Grind one tablespoon of mustard seed and mix it in with the juice of half a lemon, one tablespoon of salt and one tablespoon of clear honey. Add this mixture to half a cup of boiling water and leave it covered for around 15 minutes before gargling with it. Repeat this process up to four times every day.

In the event that a person has tried all of these treatments and finds that none of them have worked, it might be best to consult with a medical practitioner, since this might be an indication that a more serious condition might be present. It is also important to focus on whether the condition worsens over time, as this could be another indication that the condition might be more serious than a common sore throat.
