3 Tips to Protect Your Skin This Summer
Summer fun includes plenty of travelling; whether you’re setting sale on a two-week cruise, travelling by car to the Grand Canyon, or just spending some time at the beach soaking up some sun. It’s important to take care of your skin during all of this sunny exposure, or you could cause signs of early aging, or skin cancer. To keep your skin healthy and safe this summer, follow these 3 guidelines, and ask your doctor for other tips on summer skin care.
1. Cover Up: Remember when you were young and your parents were always sticking a hat on your head for summer play? That same logic applies during adulthood to keep the sun off your head, hair, and face. The shade from the rim of a hat can prevent early lines and wrinkles around your eyes and forehead caused by sun exposure, while shielding your eyes from the damaging rays of the sun and minimizing the possibility of heat stroke. You should also cover your shoulders and legs when at the beach or poolside, if you’re not in the water. A light shrug, or a beach wrap can help keep your newly damp skin from frying in the summer heat.
2. SPF 30 or Higher: You want to keep your skin healthy, but you also want a tan. At Quick RX Refill, we suggest skipping the UV intense tans of the sun, and trying a spray tan or other alternative instead. Sunscreen and tanning lotions which include SPF coverage lower than 30 could be leaving you open to damage by ultraviolet activity. Remember to lather up about 30-minutes before entering the pool, and then again after you’ve left the water to avoid a burn. A sunburn is caused by damage to the DNA in your skin cells, and this damage is often irreparable, which means that your skin will peel off so that new skin can replace it. When rubbing on the sunscreen don’t forget your ears and the back of your neck, as these places often receive a harsh blast of sun during the day, even when walking around.
3. Drink Plenty of Water: In the sun, your skin can dry out, making it difficult for cells to regenerate and weakening it. Not only does drinking plenty of water during a hot day keep your skin looking and feeling healthy, it also helps prevent heat stroke and other forms of overheating.
