How is CBG Different from CBD?

Products containing CBD have become extremely popular over the past few years. CBD is the non-intoxicating ingredient in the cannabis plant. Cannabigerol (CBG) is another cannabinoid that also shows potential as a therapeutic product. Every cannabinoid starts out as CBG and then converts to others like CBD and THC.

Some experts are predicting that CBG could be the next big health product, and it is currently possible to purchase CBG online, where it sells for a higher price than CBD oil. Here are some of the differences between CBG and CBD.

Cannabis strains contain less CBG than CBD

There are over a hundred different cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant and CBD is one of the most abundant ones. With so many people wanting to purchase high quality CBD online, breeders have been finding ways to maximize the CBD content in plants. Some strains can contain up to 15% of CBD.

Cannabis strains usually contain very little CBG and scientists have found that extracting CBG at around six weeks into the flowering cycle, which usually lasts eight weeks, yields the most CBG. Breeders are currently cross-breeding and manipulating genetics to try and get higher yields of CBG, in the same way as they have done with CBD.

Interaction with cannabinoid receptors

Both CBD and CBG are non-intoxicating and interact with the cannabinoid receptors in the body which are part of the endocannabinoid system. Unlike CBD, which mostly acts indirectly with these receptors, CBG appears to interact directly with the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. Scientists believe CBG works as a buffer to the effects of THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, and alleviates feelings of paranoia that sometimes come with consuming a high amount of THC.

Cultivation

CBD is often extracted from hemp plants which are part of the cannabis family and fairly easy to cultivate. Hemp plants cultivated for their cannabinoids are quite different from industrial hemp plants as they are grown for the flower from female seeds. Federal regulations require THC levels to be less than 0.3% in products and if they are higher than this, they aren\'t legal. Some seeds have been cross-bred to increase the CBD level and yield more CBD per acre and people pay more to purchase high quality CBD online.

Cultivators have to decide whether they want to grow cannabis for the purpose of producing CBG so that people can purchase CBG online. If this is the purpose, they have to harvest the crop early before the CBG present converts into other cannabinoids which can happen if they leave the crop to mature fully. In this case, there is a lower CBG contact for extraction, although they can then sell some of the crop for other purposes to those who want to purchase CBD online.

Cost of production

One of the main reasons why CBG hasn\'t seen the same popularity as CBD is the cost of production. The CBG content in the plant is so low in comparison to CBD. This makes extracting the necessary amount requires large amounts of plant material. This can be expensive and added to this, its extraction requires the use of precise chromatography apparatus to isolate and purify extracts. The cost of the equipment is a high upfront cost for processors. However, it is possible to charge more when people want to buy CBG online which could make this profitable over the long term.

Therapeutic benefits

Research into the therapeutic benefits of CBD is confirming what anecdotal evidence has suggested for some time. Studies have found it to be beneficial in addressing anxiety, insomnia, and inflammation and may help with falling asleep and staying asleep. It may also be useful for treating chronic pain. Studies have shown that it may impact endocannabinoid receptor activity, thus reducing inflammation and pain. Using CBD is an appealing option for those who don\'t want to experience the side effects of some prescription medications and they can buy CBD online.

Research is still lacking about CBG in comparison to research into THC and CBD. It seems to act on very specific medical problems, so its potential is promising. Studies show that CBG is effective in treating glaucoma because it reduces intraocular pressure and protects neurons. CBG also decreased inflammation in mice with inflammatory bowel disease and inhibited tumor growth in mice with colorectal cancer. It was also shown to protect neurons in mice with Huntingdon\'s Disease. Some research has shown that it is effective against some strains of bacteria resistant to certain drugs.

Scientists are excited about these discoveries and want to do further research into using CBG alone or using it with other cannabinoids in the treatment of many health problems.

Choosing products

CBG can be harder to find than CBD and neither are regulated by the FDA. However, it is available in the form of gummies, tinctures, pills, body creams and even shampoos. Some research is often necessary to ensure that when you buy CBD online, you receive high quality products. It is not as easy to buy CBG online as it is not as readily available as CBD. You can buy high quality CBD online quite easily.

Full-spectrum CBD products contain a small amount of many cannabinoids and it is easier to find them online than CBG-only products. Before you purchase CBG online, find out whether the company\'s products are third-party tested, just as you would with CBD products. Whichever products you decide to buy, just check with your healthcare provider if you have underlying health conditions or take any medications.

A final word

CBG is becoming more well-known, but research is still quite limited. It may offer some great benefits, but not much is known yet about its side effects or how it interacts with certain medications. As CBD has little to no side effects and interactions with certain medications are known, it may be easier to purchase high quality CBD online. If it\'s full-spectrum CBD, it could just contain some CBG too.
